I love wine. And I love to travel. So there is no sweeter experience than wine travel. We travel to experience many different things and wine tourism is a category that is taking off. Wine tourism is loosely defined as travel that includes the tasting, consumption or purchase of wine, often at or near the source. Winerist is a UK-based website that scours the world and offers the best wine travel experiences. The founders of Winerist have a strong belief that travel has to be authentic, original and unique. I love this concept!
The website, Winerist.com, features a variety of wine hotels, wineries, wine tours and experiences such as cooking classes, winemaking courses, horseback riding and more. From wine hotels in Puglia and making the perfect steak in Argentina to staying with wine makers in California and discovering the best trekking routes in Australia, the site offers the most authentic experience in wine regions around the world. The site features some rather intriguing hotel properties where you can enjoy that authentic wine experience. A couple that I’ve added to my bucket list are: La Bastide de Marie in Provence is an elegant, 18th century residence nestled amongst the Provencal vines, is also home to Domaine de Marie winery, making it the perfect combination of accommodation and winery experience.
Badia di Campoleone Relais and Restaurant in Tuscany is a luxury Tuscan retreat in a stunning 16th century villa where you can participate in wine, olive oil and cheese tastings in the comfort of the hotel, or try your hand at the hotel’s cooking lessons. Learn more about my favorite Italian wine destinations in Tuscany and Umbria.
In addition to wine tours and tastings, Winerist seeks out some of the most unique experience for vinophiles. On the English harvest experience, you can work on a vineyard for a day in the English countryside, hand-picking grapes and learning about the grape varieties and meet the winemaker for a first-hand account of the production process.
Another amazing experience includes a Mt Etna wine tasting and tour to discover the magic of the volcano and Sicilian wine.
But don’t take my word for it. There are dozens of luxury wine properties and experiences available on the Winerist site. If you’re interested in a trip to California’s wine tasting regions, check out my article on the Santa Maria Valley and Sonoma County.
